In his lifetime, Dave Stamey has done many things. He's been bucked off and stomped by many horses, stepped on by mules and dragged around branding pens by angry cattle of many sizes. He's ridden in the rain, in the snow, in the rain some more, in some pretty nasty heat, and in feedlot pens where the air was thick and decidedly fragrant. He's even wrangled dudes.
Now Dave Stamey is one of the most popular Western entertainers working today. Surprisingly – or maybe not depending upon how you look at it – he finds he prefers this.
Stamey will headline the Opening Night Supper at the 2011 Bishop Mule Days Celebration. As it's not Stamey's first trip to Bishop, or to Mule Days, he is guaranteed to delight the Mule Days audience. "Dave is a gifted storyteller who paints his songs with a depth and a passion that can only be achieved by someone who has lived and loved the life he sings of," said Barbara Laughon, Mule Days spokesperson.
The Western Music Association twice named Stamey Entertainer of the Year. He was also named Male Performer of the Year three times and Songwriter of the Year twice by the WMA. He has also received the Will Rogers Award from the Academy of Western Artists.
The Opening Night Supper is set for Wednesday, May 25th, 5 p.m. in the Charles Brown Auditorium. It is the quintessential must-attend event for first-timers and Mule Days veterans alike. "Think of it as a reunion among the best kind of friends," Laughon explained. "Chances are these folks haven't seen each other since last year, but they'll pick up right where they left off without missing a beat. It really sets the tone for the whole event."
